How You Can Help Hunters with Disabilities

At the Illinois Conservation Foundation (ICF), we believe that the beauty of the outdoors should be accessible to everyone. Whether it's hiking, birdwatching, or hunting, nature is for all of us. That’s why we’re so excited to announce a special initiative in partnership with the Jared Burke Foundation—an initiative that’s all about creating more opportunities for people with disabilities to enjoy hunting.

What’s the Goal?

We’re raising $30,000 to purchase five mobile hunting blinds—one for each region managed by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). These specially designed hunting blinds will make it easier for individuals with disabilities to take part in the hunting season comfortably and safely. Each blind costs around $6,000, and with your help, we’re aiming to have them ready for use by November!

Why Is This Important?

Hunting isn’t just about spending time in nature—it’s about tradition, skill-building, and connecting with the natural world. For many, hunting is a beloved activity that brings families and friends together. But for individuals with disabilities, it can be difficult to access outdoor spaces that are built with able-bodied people in mind.

These mobile hunting blinds are going to change that. They’re fully accessible, allowing disabled hunters to enjoy the sport they love without the physical limitations that often come with navigating rough terrain or dense forests. It’s a simple, effective way to make the outdoors more inclusive, and we’re thrilled to be working towards this goal.

How You Can Help—and Feel Good Doing It

Here’s where you come in! We’re asking for your support to help us reach our fundraising goal. Every donation—whether it’s $10 or $1,000—brings us closer to making this dream a reality for hunters with disabilities across Illinois.

And here’s the best part: For every donation, we’ll send you a special sticker to proudly show your support for this amazing cause. You can stick it on your car, your water bottle, or wherever you like—it’s our way of saying thank you for helping to make the outdoors accessible to everyone.

It Feels Good to Give

We all know that helping others feels great. There’s something incredibly rewarding about knowing that your actions are making a difference in someone’s life. By supporting this initiative, you’re doing more than just donating—you’re becoming part of a community that believes in inclusivity, kindness, and shared experiences.

You’re making it possible for someone with a disability to join their friends and family in the woods for a weekend of hunting. You’re giving them the chance to participate in a sport that fosters connection with nature. And you’re helping to build a more welcoming outdoor community for everyone.

So, how can you get involved? It’s easy! Hit the donate button or visit www.jaredburkefoundation.com to make your contribution. Every dollar helps, and remember—you’ll get that special sticker as a thank-you for being part of this important cause.

At the Illinois Conservation Foundation, we believe that together, we can make the outdoors a place where everyone feels welcome. Thank you for helping us create a future where all Illinois residents, regardless of ability, can enjoy our natural spaces.

Let’s make this hunting season one to remember—for everyone!
